The difference
You should not have to check up on a cleaner
Most people who are unhappy with a cleaner are not unhappy about the money. They are unhappy because they got home and could not tell what had been done, and did not fancy the conversation. So the thing we built first was not the booking. It was the proof.
- Every job, ticked or not. Room by room, each line stamped at the moment it was done rather than written up later.
- What was skipped, and why. No hot water. Bedroom door locked. The dog was in the way. This is the line no other cleaning company will print, and it is the reason the rest of the report is worth reading.
- Photographs. Before and after, taken on the spot, of the rooms we worked in.
- Who came, when they arrived, and when they left. Their name, not a company name.
Our cleaners are not there to get out of the door. They are there to leave your home properly clean.
Every cleaner at The Whistle Co completes two weeks of formal training before their first clean, keeps training, and has their work reviewed regularly. Every room is cleaned to a detailed checklist and the finished work is photographed, so your home is in good hands.

How a visit works
Three things happen, and you see all of them
- BeforeYou get a price and pick a slot
Four answers on this page. If we cannot reach your postcode the quote says so on the spot rather than taking your number and ringing you back. No card is charged at booking.
- On the dayThe cleaner checks in at your door
You get their name before they arrive. They work a room by room list on the phone, and each line is stamped as it is finished, not written up in the van afterwards.
- AfterThe report arrives, then the payment
Photographs, the list, the time on site, and anything skipped with the reason. You are charged after the visit, not before it, because you should see the work before you pay for it.

What we clean
Three jobs, one way of working
- Houses and flats
Weekly, fortnightly, monthly, or once. The same cleaner each time wherever the rota allows it.
- Holiday lets
Changeovers between guests, linen counted, restocked, and photographed before the next arrival.
- Offices and small sites
Out of hours if you need it, with a sign-in log and the same report every visit.
What is included
The list itself, not a description of it
It is the same list that appears on the cleaner's phone, and the same list that comes back to you ticked. Anything on it that was skipped comes back with the reason beside it.
- Kitchen: sides, sink, hob, front of units
- Bathroom: basin, bath, shower, toilet, mirror
- Bedrooms: dust, surfaces, floors
- Living areas: dust, surfaces, floors
- Hall and stairs: floors, banister, skirting
- Bins out, doors and windows checked
- Finishing touches: towels folded, bow on the oven door, cushions and blankets, paper folded
Inside the oven, inside the fridge, the insides of windows and an hour of ironing are extras you add when you see your price. Everything above is in the visit.
What it costs
The more often we come, the lower the rate
Worked out from the number of bedrooms and bathrooms and how often we come. A house that is kept on top of takes less work than one we visit once. A visit is never shorter than 2 hours.
| How often | An hour |
|---|---|
| weekly | £23.00 |
| fortnightly | £24.50 |
| monthly | £26.00 |
| one off | £28.00 |
A visit is quoted as a whole, not as an hour, because an hour is not the thing you are buying. The number you see is the number you pay.
Comparing prices
How much does a cleaner cost?
Agencies in the areas we cover advertise from about £18 an hour, and the going rate quoted around here is about £17.50. We start at £23.00, and here is what that pays for: cleaners who complete two weeks of formal training before their first clean and work for us directly, the same person wherever the rota allows it, a price worked out from your actual rooms, and a written report with photographs after every visit.

Before you book
The things people actually worry about
- Somebody will have a key to my house.
- Keys and door codes are held encrypted, and a cleaner can only open yours during your visit, on the phone we issued to them. Every time a code is taken out you can see who took it and when. If you would rather be in, be in.
- I will not know whether it was actually done.
- That is what the report is for. Every job on the list comes back marked done, skipped with the reason, or not reached, and a job is timestamped the moment it is marked rather than typed up afterwards.
- I will feel awkward saying it was not right.
- Tell us from your account. For 48 hours after your report arrives you can ask us to come back and clean it again, with a note on what was not right, and the office sees every request.
- I will be tied into something.
- There is no contract and no joining fee. Cancel a visit free until noon the day before, and stop whenever you like.
- It will cost more than the quote.
- The number on this page is the number. It is worked out from the size of your place and how often we come, and the only thing that changes it is you adding something.

Where we clean
10 postcode districts, and no others
We keep this list tight on purpose. A cleaner who has to drive forty minutes between houses either arrives late or costs you the driving, and both of those end up on your report.
