Caerphilly borough

Hillside streets, and what they cost a cleaner

Hengoed is built along and up the valley side, above the Rhymney and the viaduct that crosses it. The streets are stepped, the parking is on the road rather than on a drive, and a good number of houses are reached by a flight of steps from the pavement before you get anywhere near the front door.

That is a real cost. Carrying a vacuum and a box of products up twenty steps twice a day is why some agencies quietly avoid the older valley streets. We do not avoid them. The visit is priced on the rooms, the same as anywhere else on the round.

Two up, two down, and a lot of stairs

The housing here is mostly older terraces: two or three bedrooms, one bathroom, a small kitchen at the back and a staircase that takes as long to do properly as a landing twice its size. Where a loft has been converted there is a third floor, and that is worth telling us about, because it is another set of stairs and another room.

Small does not mean quick. A tight kitchen with a lot of edges takes longer than an open one twice the size, which is why the minimum visit is two hours rather than ninety minutes that would not finish.

Getting to you from Caerphilly

Hengoed is a short run up the valley from our base, so it sits comfortably in a normal working round rather than at the end of one. If you want a fixed morning slot every fortnight, this is a district where we can usually hold it.

What is in a clean, and what is an extra

The visit covers kitchens, bathrooms, floors, surfaces, dusting, beds and the hall and stairs. Inside the oven, inside the fridge, the insides of the windows and an hour of ironing are extras, and you add them yourself when you see your price rather than being talked into them.

They are priced as time, because that is what they are. An oven is three quarters of an hour of somebody's day whether it is in Hengoed or anywhere else, and that is what goes on the quote.

If you are just outside CF82

CF82 is a small district and the boundary runs through places people think of as one town. Rather than describe a line, we let the form answer it: put in your postcode and it will tell you on the spot whether we come to you.

If the answer is no, it is a plain no with the district named, not a request for your phone number. We would rather lose the enquiry than take a booking we cannot keep.

If you are out when we come, leave a key or a code. It is held encrypted and opened for one cleaner, for one visit.

How we leave it

The bit you notice

We go the extra mile to make your home feel special. Little touches we know you will enjoy, on every visit.

  • Two folded white towels stacked on a shelf with a sprig of eucalyptus

    Towels folded and squared.

  • Two towels folded into a bow on an oven door handle

The bow on the oven door.

  • A sofa with cushions squared and blankets stacked and folded

    Cushions squared, blankets stacked.

  • A toilet roll with the end folded into a fan

    The paper folded, hotel style.

That list is the same one the quote form reads, so if a place is named here you will get a price for it, and if it is not you will get a straight no rather than a call back.

What you get

A photographic report after every visit. What was done, the reason for anything skipped, and how long the cleaner was there.

The same cleaner, named before they arrive. Not a different stranger each time.

Move or cancel any visit, free, until noon the day before. Not a phone call to somebody who will try to talk you out of it.

A price before you commit. Three answers on this page, no phone call, no survey, no card taken.

Our cleaners are not there to get out of the door. They are there to leave your home properly clean.

Every cleaner at The Whistle Co completes two weeks of formal training before their first clean, keeps training, and has their work reviewed regularly. Every room is cleaned to a detailed checklist and the finished work is photographed, so your home is in good hands.
