The town the round starts from

Whistle is based in Caerphilly. Every round begins here and ends here, and that matters more than it sounds. A cleaner who is not driving in from another county can hold the same weekday and the same hour week after week, and can be at your door when they said rather than when the A470 allowed.

CF83 is a good deal wider than the town. It runs east through Bedwas and Trethomas to Machen, and north up the Rhymney valley to Llanbradach. All of it is one district and all of it is on the round, so a Llanbradach terrace is not an outlying job we squeeze in at the end of the day.

What the houses are like here, and why it changes the time

The streets by the castle and around Piccadilly are older terraces: narrow hallways, steep stairs, a lot of skirting for the size of the floor. The estates towards Trecenydd and Bedwas are post-war semis, which is more floor and less stair. Older terraces are often reached from a back lane rather than the front door.

None of that changes the rate. It changes how long the job takes, which is the thing we actually quote on. If your house has something the form cannot see, a loft room somebody sleeps in, a shower squeezed into a cupboard that still has to be cleaned, say so when you book and we will put real time against it rather than turn up short and rush.

Keys, codes and back doors

If you are out at work when we come, you can leave a key with us or give us a door code. Whichever you choose, the code is held encrypted, it is opened for one cleaner for one visit inside that visit's window, and every time it is opened you can see who opened it and when.

Tell us which door to use. In the older terraces the back lane is often the way in and the front door has not been opened since the last time somebody painted it.

The first visit takes longer than the ones after it

A house that has not had a cleaner in it for a while is not the same job as the same house four visits later. We do not charge a different rate for it and we do not spring a surcharge on the day. What we do is tell you, before you book, that a first visit uses its time on the parts that are furthest behind, and that the run of the house comes right over the next two or three.

If there is one room you want dealt with first, say so on the booking. It goes on the property record, so the cleaner reads it rather than guessing which of your rooms matters most.

Out to Machen, Bedwas and Trethomas

The eastern end of CF83 is a different sort of district from the town: bigger plots, more detached houses, and lanes that are single track in places. Nothing about that changes the price, and the only thing it changes for us is the order of the round, because we would rather do one end of the district in a morning than criss cross it all day.

If you are out that way and you want a fixed slot, ask for an early one. They are the easiest to hold, because the cleaner is coming past you on the way to everything else.

If you are out when we come, leave a key or a code. It is held encrypted and opened for one cleaner, for one visit.

How we leave it

The bit you notice

We go the extra mile to make your home feel special. Little touches we know you will enjoy, on every visit.

  • Two folded white towels stacked on a shelf with a sprig of eucalyptus

    Towels folded and squared.

  • Two towels folded into a bow on an oven door handle

The bow on the oven door.

  • A sofa with cushions squared and blankets stacked and folded

    Cushions squared, blankets stacked.

  • A toilet roll with the end folded into a fan

    The paper folded, hotel style.

Places on CF83

  • Caerphilly
  • Bedwas
  • Trethomas
  • Machen
  • Llanbradach

That list is the same one the quote form reads, so if a place is named here you will get a price for it, and if it is not you will get a straight no rather than a call back.

What you get

A photographic report after every visit. What was done, the reason for anything skipped, and how long the cleaner was there.

The same cleaner, named before they arrive. Not a different stranger each time.

Move or cancel any visit, free, until noon the day before. Not a phone call to somebody who will try to talk you out of it.

A price before you commit. Three answers on this page, no phone call, no survey, no card taken.

Our cleaners are not there to get out of the door. They are there to leave your home properly clean.

Every cleaner at The Whistle Co completes two weeks of formal training before their first clean, keeps training, and has their work reviewed regularly. Every room is cleaned to a detailed checklist and the finished work is photographed, so your home is in good hands.
